Summary
Eight years after current SU canon--Yellow Diamond's invasion has been and gone, and the Crystal Gems have managed to secure earth's permanent sovereign status. Steven is 17 years old, has one saving of the world under his belt, and is ready to settle into a routine of defending Beach City from monsters. But when the Crystal Gems make contact with some old allies, it's obvious that Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl have unfinished business on homeworld, so a family road trip is in order to get it all sorted out.
Garnet is seeking acceptance for love fusions like her and justice for her fellow soldiers whose remains were desecrated for the cluster experiments. Pearl intends to avenge the thousands of years of mistreatment she went through before she met Rose, and maybe find a modicum of closure too. Amethyst discovers the "family history" of Kindergarten gems like her and tries to puzzle out what it says about who she really is. Connie learns about other species colonized by gems and resolves to seek justice for them as Rose and Steven did for earth. Steven searches for a side of his mother he's only seen glimpses of.

A fic about Pearl & Amethyst and the past in general and the gem war in particular. Or, they never asked for it to be this way.
Goes through some pre-canon headcanons, some during-canon headcanons, and some canon stuff like “On the Run”, “Jailbreak”, and “Keystone Motel.”
This is in a first-person-y kind of second person, like Amethyst and Pearl are the proper narrators but they’re projecting it all onto an abstract “you” to avoid confrontations with themselves and each other.
TW/CW for…uh…’wow these two canonically really hate themselves a lot’, and the self-harm-y symbolism of Pearl fighting her hologram-clones being ramped up somewhat from canon although not drastically–it’s just a lot more blatant when it’s done in words and not images. T rating is pretty much solely because of that, just to be safe.

Pearl and Rose's first meeting (originally was going to be a flashback scene for my Gem Caste Uprising series, but turned into its own tiny thing).
Several minutes of pearl screaming internally (and pearlrose romantic tension and speculative lore about pearl’s “upbringing” to the extent that gems have that). tw for heavily implied abuse and just like…dehumanizing levels of casteism, but nothing too serious I think. Mostly just pearl being a dork with a side of rose being a renegade.PS my headcanons about pearls and how they're trained are incredibly elaborate so if you have any questions ASK ME (in the comments), I will hugely enjoy answering!

pearlmethyst drabble/writing exercise that I ended up liking. 3rd person in Pearl’s pov because I’m predictable like that; heavily inspired by Florence & the Machine’s “Blinding.” Almost could be called meta, but there's making out if you squint. Alternatively, imagine that this is literally what Pearl's internal monologue sounds like, complete with referring to herself in the third person, and laugh more than you should. I did.

Content warning for some suggestive hot n’ heaviness but like. It only looks like the start of something NSFW, it actually isn’t any such thing (I hc Pearl as grey-ace with a lot of nonsexual sensory attraction so like…that isn’t how I was thinking of it but I admit that’s how it looks)

I don't know if I need to put a content warning on this but just...homeworld is an Orwellian dystopia, implied classist and police-state violence, poetic & mostly non-graphic descriptions of physical injury but of course that's subjective so I'll just warn you to be safe?

Rose really needs to let off some steam (ruling a planet is stressful) and convinces Pearl to come out dancing with her in Homeworld’s capital city.
Can two gems just beginning to fall in love get past the ancient taboos that forbid their feelings? And more importantly, is this a date or what?
(This, like most of my pearlrose fic, assumes the same universe as the Gem Caste Uprising fic, i.e. the one where Pearl worked in the factory where she was made for the first few thousand years of her life, so that’s the backstory at play here)
