"Friends don't let friends go into a very clear set up!" He exasperatedly threw his hands in the air and then rested them on his temples.
I swiped my car keys and pocketed them, giving one last glance to our flat incase my brain screamed that I forgot something. The coffee on the dining room table was still steaming, a streak of it leaked down the bulbous side and formed a dark halo around his novelty cup. We'd gotten it in a random shop at Solace, and he'd become infatuated with this ceramic replica of an octopus.

It's 11am on a Sunday morning, and tomorrow we're starting training for the next season of the Apex Games. What the Apex Community & our bosses think, El & I are 'stuck in an airport layover'. When the cheap crayon with a stick bug for a brain had suggested we ,'Try to save the league a few bucks', I pretty much said to Blisk's lackey- Marcus, "God forbid we have two meet and greets across country and have a flight delayed, let us enjoy sleeping our hotel rooms instead of an airport seat."
Is that reaaallllyyy what you said?
No where near as lethal in my opinion, but close.

His head snapped up from his position as he heard the door begin to open. He quickly wiped his eyes and sniffled, trying to hide the fact he was crying, but they were puffy and his face was a bit too splotchy & red than it probably should have been. The dim light revealed a small woman who had a sigh of relief when she saw him. She stepped inside, locked the door and sat next to him , the floor letting out a slight creak as she hit the ground.
"I'm okay." He lied, wiping his eyes again, voice hoarse. The pain in his chest was still full force, and it felt like someone had stuck a needle through his lungs.
tight.
too tight
"I know." She sat crosslegged, her head turned to study his face. Renee knew today was going to be a hard day for him, and was irritated that despite Elliott pushing for another day for the party, the other legends insisted it being on today.

"It's okay." She mumbled, grasping her footing, but the only thing she could think about was how his hands fit perfectly there, how he'd done it so many times before, the same gentle caresses, the same man. The same hands, the same soft- fuck.
Elliott swallowed hard and looked over at her, her face paler than normal, being illuminated by the sudden flashes of light.
"Renee are you okay?"
"I lied."
The lightning strikes made his face more visible with the brief flash of light as well, so she knew his head was tilted questionably, and it wasn't her imagination.
She felt the words leave her mouth before she knew she was going to speak.
"I do miss you."

Summary
She'd slowly distanced herself from everyone, and Elliott had to fight to keep her from spiraling. Walking into her apartment to make sure she was ready to train, coming in with food, to find her laying on the bed and staring at the ceiling, or in the corner on the couch, with a faraway look and glossy eyes. Face tinted a rosy pink like she'd been crying. She thought she was that person, because the only slivers she knew about who she was as a person was from her trauma, or half burned paperwork they'd scoured through. She had a problem with a lot of things, but grieving losing yourself, and finding out every horrible and immoral thing you've done wrecked her completely- because there was never anything good she'd find. She never thought about how far she'd pushed herself to be exactly what she'd run from.
