Summary
Her eyes glinted dangerously, “I don’t think I did any such thing. You weren’t looking so you can’t prove anything. And even if I did,” she moved her eyes full of contempt to the still screaming Kyle, “Is Kyle really going to admit to anyone that a quirkless person almost permanently rid him of his quirk with a measly little piece of wood? What a comedy.”
Mr. Sanders went back to the board and shakily presented today’s lesson even though not a single person was paying attention. Eyes glanced at Ebony over their shoulders every few seconds. She just smiled like a cat that just ate the canary and took out a notebook and new wooden pencil which made Kyle flinch and stare down at his hands for the rest of class.
Kai hadn’t stopped staring at her. She met his eyes and gave him a small, genuine quirk of her lip. Hope swelled in Kai’s chest; maybe things really could be different now.

Summary
“And where do you think you’re going?” Damnit.
Moving like I suddenly weighed a thousand pounds I faced Mr. Zaiza, playing with my fingers I said, “To take the Dominator exam?” with a masterfully (if I do say so myself) pathetic but hopeful lilt to my voice.
His eyes softened a fraction.‘Ha, still got it.’ A quick glance told me the twins were caught between being incredulous and livid that I could still play Mr. Zaiza like a cheap kazoo while they were probably getting punished with no dessert for a week. I inwardly smirked, though, I did have an unfair advantage compared to them in the form of excellent chosen career choice plans and time to wrap him around my finger; Mr. Zaiza, even though he wasn’t one anymore, always went to see the new Dominators off on their first venture Outside to make sure they were prepared and even if he’d never say it, I knew he had a soft spot for me- because of mom, probably.
He sighed, “Fine. I’ll see you this afternoon then.”
I straightened my spine and ran out of there, waving without looking back and yelled, “Of course you will.”
