“Scientific Duty” had been what the woman said when she asked why, why offer such kindness when she seemed so professional, keeping the moments that made her heart swell behind a barrier that the other woman showed no interest in crossing. A degree of separation. But it didn’t make sense. Tingyun had been an expert of insight, a muscle memory Fugue kept, and that enigmatic scientist was no exception. There was something behind it. There had to be.
Fugue’s search for memories brings her to Penacony, her subsequent journey with Ruan Mei coming to an end. And with this morning beginning strained between the two, the Foxian finds herself unhappy with how things between her and Ruan Mei, her secret love may end. But surely something will push, it has to, because either woman in unable to truly say goodbye

Everything starts to fall into place, all the curiosities about her partner’s behaviour making perfect, twisted sense. She’d never expected this could happen to a non-Foxian, but the heart works in mysterious ways.
Or, Ruan Mei has a headache all day and it turns out the solution lives in the wonderful pink fur of her partner's tails.
