Arguably, it was because of being with Gon that Killua was able to reconnect with his sister, Alluka. His time with his sister helped him grow even more as a person, and he felt as if his past was finally...in the past. Things were different now--no, they were better. Killua was allowed to have friends. He deserved to have friends. And soon, he would be reunited with his closest friend.
