Summary
The new farmer hardly goes anywhere without that sword. March has to admit it's a decent piece. It seems bespoke. Expensive. And way too big for her, like it was designed for someone much taller. It's exactly what he'd expect of someone from the Capital: more concerned about form than function, willing to pay for a vanity piece, carrying it everywhere, and hardly using it. If she really is an experienced adventurer, she'd know better. It's just another thing that tells him she's a total fraud.
He's not interested in getting to know her. She'll be out of town come winter—no point in thinking about her more than necessary.

Summary
Varric is not drunk, but he's far past an easy buzz. The alcohol keeps the thoughts he'd rather avoid away and replaces them with the pleasant hum of a packed tavern, the warmth of the drink, and the Chargers' revelry. It makes life simpler. There's just the conversation, the jokes, the bets, the cards. There's no Valammar. No red lyrium. No Bianca or Bartrand or Corypheus to concern himself with.
There's just the drink, the company, and the long legs of the Seeker leaning against the bar.

Summary
This is all Curly’s damn fault, Varric thinks.
Blaming Cullen for his insistence on a rematch is preferable to admitting that Varric is in any way responsible for this dangerous situation. Varric doesn’t remember their last game of Wicked Grace deteriorating like this, and they were betting with nonexistent money and playing for clothes then too. The problem isn’t keeping his own clothes. The problem isn’t even Josephine’s monopoly on the game or that he's been forced to see Cullen’s pectorals again. The problem sits at the far end of the table, glaring at her cards, reduced to a loose, thin undershirt and those damnably tight leggings.
“I will call,” Cassandra announces on her turn.

Summary
“Why did you come to Ishgard?” Aymeric asks, and it’s the question she has spent the better part of a week hoping nobody would ever ask her.
There is no truthful answer that she's brave enough to give. She wonders why he’d even ask her such a thing.

Summary
Thedas is at war. The Conclave is destroyed. Divine Justinia is dead, and with her, the world’s last hope for peace. Until out of the ashes stumbles a lone survivor…
“The two of us are the only people who don’t believe this whole ‘Herald of Andraste’ bullshit.’
Cassandra said nothing. Varric rounded on her, horrified.
“You’re kidding! Seeker, tell me you don’t—”
“What better explanation do you have, Varric?” she replied, voice sharp and defensive.
“Anything! Any explanation is better! I am not anyone’s saviour. This mark is just...just some shiny shit from the Fade.”He’s not the hero they expected. He’s definitely not the hero they wanted. But Varric Tethras, Herald of Andraste, might just be the hero they’re all stuck with.
Oh well. At least it’ll make for a good story.
