“Wow,” Will breathes out, just on this edge of teasing. “You sound very confident about this.”
“Well,” Mike shrugs, swallowing hard in a desperate attempt to soothe his very, very dry mouth, “I don’t know why someone wouldn’t be interested in you.”
“Oh?” Will says, and it’s definitely teasing now, enough for Mike to feel himself turning warm, all down his neck and to the tips of his own – sadly unpatterned – socks. “Someone?”
“Yeah.” Mike nods. Oh, god. This is fine. “In a very arbitrary sense of the word. Just– people. Someone.”
Mike is approximately ninety-eight percent sure that his feelings are requited. That last two percent, however, has really been throwing him for a loop.

Mike faltered at that, expression shifting to confusion, maybe even shock — *his world*? But before he could question further, Joyce continued. “That’s why he spent so long making that painting for you. I couldn’t even get him out of his room for dinner most times,” she chuckled, the sound reminiscent.
Mike stopped in full. If he wasn’t sitting somewhere safe at the moment, he would’ve thought a cinderblock was dropped on his skull and suddenly his brains were painting the floor. His nerves felt alight — firing too fast, fingertips too warm, cheeks burning like a hot iron was placed to the freckled skin there. In fact, he could’ve lurched up his own voice box if it wasn’t rooted in his body by flesh.
“…What?” Mike choked, the exasperation on his face giving away every bit of the fact that he didn’t understand — that *that* wasn’t what he was told.

Will passes out after using his powers. Mike becomes overprotective and particularly stressed, which only heightens when Joyce lets something slip.

“Have you noticed the signals?” Robin asks softly.
Will freezes. He’s quiet for one… two… three moments, before slowly, he lifts his head and meets Robin’s gaze. His eyes are still wide—full of an understandable uncertainty but also a hope that’s so infectious that Robin can’t help but smile.
“I… I think so,” he confesses. “I… I don’t know if they actually mean anything, but… but everything you said to look for… all those signals…”
His voice trails off, and Robin offers a wry smile, finishing the thought for him, “They’re definitely there.”
