Summary
Chuya is methodical when facing the idea of killing himself, Dazai quickly realises. Dazai is sure that most people believe his suicide attempts to be a pastime, though he’s always been frantic whenever he committed to them. Calm after surviving, though he was nothing but a starving man just a few moments prior.
Dazai digs through grave dirt desperately when he is faced with the reality of killing himself, whilst Chuya looks as if he’s completing a particularly boring task.

Dazai can’t explain it. He has never been able to explain it. He had to be taught how to live, even though seeking his own demise is as natural as breathing.
It is always there, the slow thrum of death, the quiet echo of nothing. It’s nonsensical, contradictory, heretical—don’t touch me, never stop touching me—as everything surrounding him has always been. I love you, I hate you. Kill me, save me.

Summary
Dazai tilts his head and asks, “Don’t you agree, Chūya?” while tucking his feet under Chūya’s thigh. Chūya doesn’t understand if the action is meant to annoy him or not—even though it does, of course it does—, because everything Dazai does annoys him. Regardless, he allows it. Chūya has always found himself allowing Dazai a lot of things, since they were children. Perhaps too much.
