“But what is it,” Anakin almost yells, pacing around the room. “It’s the size of a moon! Where did it come from? Why is it here? What kind of ship is that?”
“Maybe if you’d gone to your classes, you’d know, you uncultured child,” Obi-Wan says, and goes back to being a nerd. Cody’s never seen him so excited about anything to do with a ship before, so it must mean something or be significant in another way.

The equipment around them is understandable after they spend some time poking and prodding at it, but it’s simultaneously more advanced than anything any of them has ever seen and so ancient it’s laughable. The ship follows the course the Force plotted for them using Mace’s hands, but nobody is sure where it goes.
Kamino, as it turns out. Shaak had recognized it immediately as they dropped out of hyperspace.

Summary
The first plea for their return came only a week after they had landed on Kamino.
The second came a few days later, but it was less of a plea for aid than a command to return the Coruscant Guard immediately, signed by most of the remaining military leaders and police chiefs. Mace printed out a copy just to set it on fire.
The third was a somewhat timid inquiry from Coruscant’s largest food bank, asking if it could still ask for the help of the Agricorps. Padmé brought that one to the Council, and after much deliberation they agreed to offer deliveries of whatever they could spare, in a neutral location off Coruscant and not in the Core.
The fourth was along the lines of the first, except it was signed by a much larger group of senators.

Summary
He keeps himself still and very carefully eases one eye just far enough open to see. A natborn is touching him. There’s no sign of any of his brothers. That answers that question.
“You’re awake!” they say, softly, as if they fear being overheard, and they . . . smile? At him.

They run.
Back down the narrow staircase, through the tunnel, into the barracks, into the streets, and then they take to the rooftops and alleys and don’t stop running and jumping, only slowing enough to make sure Vheh Company stays with them, until they reach the Temple and see the soldiers surrounding it and the incendiary bombs they are throwing. There is heavy artillery crawling through the streets from every side and already the walls are cracking under the assault.

Summary
Ahsoka stirs, stretches a little, and yawns, showing her spiky teeth. Then she sees Anakin.
“I hate you!” she screeches, leaps off Padmé’s lap, and runs out of the room.
“Hey,” Anakin says, starting to his feet again. He looks between the slammed door and Padmé in confusion. “What was that about?”
Padmé sighs. “She’s jealous of the time you are spending with Rex and feels that you don’t want her.”

Summary
The legs had been designed for menace, not repetitive pacing, she is discovering. Menace was very useful, and sometimes lifesaving, but she’s been circling her bedroom for three hours now, the quietly wailing child in the crook of her cold metal arm, and the muscles that aren’t there anymore are starting to cramp.
She bounces it, feeling helpless (which she does not like) and tries to hum, but it comes out as a raspy growl through the life support suit.

Overall, Anakin thinks he’s doing very well.
The Jedi weren’t all dead, he was going to tie Sidious up and read him the most excruciatingly dull pod mechanic manuals he could find until he died of boredom (well, boring to Sidious. Anakin thought they were very interesting) and then set his corpse on fire and dance on it, Padmé was alive and their children were too, Obi-Wan didn’t actually hate him or think he was a delinquent brat, and Ahsoka was back with him.

The General bangs on them, grinning cheerfully. He doesn’t seem to notice the way Rex flinches and looks around. When the brother inside demands to know their identities, he speaks with a tone almost like laughter.

They go to the barracks of the Coruscant Guard first, at Grey’s suggestion. He and his brothers follow them in and bar the doors.
Depa looks around and shivers, both from cold and from the Force-sense of despair that permeates the walls. “They made you live here?” she asks, and her voice echoes quietly off the bare wall and floors. “I’ve been in nicer prisons.”

He knows things, now. He’s always known them but could not remember them. But now that the chip is gone, he can make sense of the instinctual knowledge that it had apparently both given and repressed.
Coruscant is noisy, space is cold, it always rains on Kamino, Sheev Palpatine leads both the Republic and the Separatists and will not hesitate to decommission anyone who gets in his way.

Mace is ready when Depa stops her quiet questioning of her Commander and cups her hand over his ear again, clearly signaling that if anyone wanted to bother him further they would quite literally have to go through her.
“All right!” he says, with forced cheerfulness, unconsciously mimicking her. “I have a plan.”
All eyes turn to him.

Cody’s defeated the blanket and is standing up, sliding his hands beneath his elbows, and it’s familiar but where it had been unbearable before, now he can sense the intent behind it, and the affection he can feel with every heartbeat makes something cold and tight in his chest start to relax.
He’s not playing house. He’s not there because he thinks he has to be. The care in his touch and the warmth in his voice isn’t a façade.
“Love you too,” he says, leaning into Cody’s arms, and holding on as tight as he can. “I broke it, I can feel it all now.”
And they are home.

They could salvage us at least from the first batches. They said that the Alphas were us but better. More refined. So we had to learn from them how to be useful. We were the first ARCs. Then they put more in, because we were getting too close again. Sometimes they wanted us together so we wouldn’t affect the younger brothers, but they we’d get too close and remember and they’d pull us apart again. They . . .” Gree trails off. “They said that if they couldn’t burn the individuality out of us, they’d at least make it look intentional.”
Barriss turns wide, scared eyes to Luminara.
Everything they know about the vod’e is apparently wrong.

Anakin feels a deep satisfaction as he kicks the wall in with the Force and it narrowly misses hitting Dooku. He was just beginning to believe that the asshole old man did genuinely want to join them, and now he goes and does this to Obi-Wan?
Rex grabbed his hand again and he can feel the spike of attraction through their tiny newborn Force-bond, but he files that away to gloat about later and squares up for a fight, lightsaber poised to strike. Rex has his own saber in his other hand.
Anakin could get used to this.
He looks over his shoulder to see Cody protecting Obi-Wan and the rest of the men who followed them flowing into a tightly-packed formation in the corner of the room, centered around the two of them and fairly bristling with the intent to absolutely try their best to murder a ghost if he makes one wrong move towards them.

Of course they’re going to go exploring before they’re officially supposed to.
It’s Kamino. It’s where most of their friends grew up. By now, Barriss has heard so many stories about the place that she can find her way around despite never having been inside Tipoca City herself before. She’s heard all the stories, the good ones, the sad ones, and the creepy ones.
Most of the creepy ones revolved around the single door that led down to the detention level. It was underneath the seabed and it was very, very rare that a brother ever even got to see the door, much less actually get sent there.

Ah. That might explain why his legs feel like they’re floating away.

Anakin just stands there under the rain, leaning on the railing. Rex watches him from the shelter of the canopy on the deck. It’s warm enough, now that the Temple had sunk its roots into Kamino and calmed the nexus there. It won’t hurt him to stay out in the rain for a while.

Mace gives into temptation and buries his face in his hands. Ki-Adi had had the bright idea to comm Obi-Wan since he was the more reasonable one of the duo and ask for some clarification.
He’d been honestly shocked by how Obi-Wan looked when he answered the call. Exhausted, almost emaciated, his clothes rumpled and dirty like he had never dreamed of seeing on the usually tidy and put-together man. He was sprawled on an unmade bunk of some kind, a tiny child held to his chest, and glaring at them with a sulky resentment that only padawans let show on their faces.

Commander Grey’s fingers are still shaking as he brings up the comm channel that he was instructed to.
