Summary
Okay, so this is for all my babies who miss "The First Years". We will forever mourn the loss of that fantastic fic, but in honor of its memory, I have composed something that will hopefully give you flashbacks to that. This is definitely the most X-rated stuff I've ever written, and something came over me when I was writing it, so no judgment.
As always, you can read this by itself if you want to but I'd recommend reading the other chapters in "Bury Me In Sunlight" for the context and content. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

“I have a lot of regrets, but not saving her when I could have…that was always my biggest,” Kyo said. The words were old. He’d said them every year and meant them every time. Tohru sighed, as she always did, and squeezed his hand.
“You did what you needed to. To keep your secret. To protect yourself.”
“If I could go back and do it again, I would save her. I don’t care who would find out my secret. The only thing that would matter is giving you back your mom.”

That night, as Tohru slept beside him, Kyo prayed. What ifs might be enough to soothe Tohru’s grief, but guilt still prickled at him after all these years. He didn’t know who he prayed to, only that he prayed. "Please. If there’s any magic or justice in the world, let me try again. For me, and for every Cat before me whose life was stolen by the curse. For Kyoko. For Tohru, who saved us all."
He let out a deep breath and turned over on his side. In her sleep, Tohru shifted to make room for him and he wrapped himself up in her. When he fell asleep, he did not dream. And he certainly did not expect his prayer to be heard.Bookmarked by faeriecow

Kyo woke up and saw that Tohru's side of the bed was empty, neatly made, which hinted she's been gone for quite a while. He vaguely recalled her telling him she was going somewhere and then kissing his forehead, but it was hazy. She always was an early riser, and normally he was too, but today he felt...lethargic. Even just sitting up was a struggle, limbs heavy with fatigue and aching, and he had a headache. Was he getting sick? He heard the gentle patter of something hitting the roof and looked out the window.
