Summary
Jackie had unplugged the phone. Shauna didn't even come to the hospital to see her before leaving for Nationals so she probably would'nt bother calling after she landed. But Jackie took that precaution anyway, because she knew herself. Jackie knew that even after Shauna slept with her boyfriend and called her boring and insecure, all she would have to say was a simple sorry for Jackie to forgive her - and Jackie felt like she deserved an apology in person.
So yeah, Jackie had unplugged the phone, meaning that she missed about a thousand phone calls, and didn't hear the news from people she knew. Instead, it hit her when she turned the TV on.
The plane never landed. It most likely crashed. The Yellowjackets team was missing. And the last time she spoke with Shauna, it ended in screams and sobs and Shauna telling Jackie how much she hated her.

Jackie finds out about Shauna and Jeff a couple nights before Nationals, resulting in getting drunk and hit by a car, meaning she can't play for the game. She has to stay in Wiskayok and deal with the everything that comes with the news of the plane crashing - anger, hope, fear, guilt, grief, and a few realizations along the way.
