Summary
Layton smiles slightly although it doesn’t go anywhere near his eyes. “Next year,” he says, “you’ll be right here, same time, same place, same bucket hats, same tone when your partner is screwing up. You’ll have a brand new celebrity who’ll know how to turn out their fucking feet and you’ll do it all over again and I’ll… I’ll never do this again. This is my Strictly experience. With you. Next September I’ll just be someone you danced with, a footnote on your Wikipedia page.”
This has gone somewhere he wasn’t expecting very quickly, much too quickly, and Nikita really isn’t ready to think about any of that just yet. But then last year he wasn’t thinking about this autumn, and Layton didn’t figure into the equation at all. And now here they are, hand in hand in a dance studio, wearing each other’s sweat and the memory of a 10 last week.
