Summary
“It was there this whole time.” It’s probably dangerous for Mike to start thinking out loud.
Will looks back to him, soft, corners of his eyes crinkling. He nods, and though his gaze is a live wire, Mike still can’t look away. “Yeah, exactly. But now I can see it.” Sincere, he adds, “does that make sense?”
Mike nods. Will’s not looking away from him, not anymore. He’s upside down from here, chin propped up by the heel of his hand. They both seem so far away from anything real. The door to normalcy can only hold for so long; eventually time’s pulse settles and carries on as usual, but for now Mike’s floating. The reason it stands out to him so much is because it’s been so long since anything seemed so simple. Mike’s smile threads across his face, and Will’s answering one appears, and he falls further into the lull, the languid graze of orange light filtering through the room.in the aftermath, back at wsqk radio station, mike and will work through what's changed

Summary
At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.
