A gentle touch. A smile. A phrase spoken in a soft tone. The slightest act of affection would make Dogman his—Petey knew that perfectly well. He was desperate for his love, so obviously it hurt. But Petey’s soul wasn’t ready to return that love, and it never would be. The thought of giving him hope felt criminally wrong. It felt like robbing Ohkay’s first bank while laughing in everyone’s face. Euphoric and miserable all at once. Dogman’s heart was the city’s greatest treasure—on display and unguarded, with nothing to shield it. His for the taking, if only he dared to stretch out a paw and claim it.

Summary
He runs out the first chance he gets, and in hindsight Petey knew it was a bad idea — bringing his son to the set he’s filming the movie at. Now here he is, chasing the kid through a city he doesn’t know and trying to hide from the people that recognize his face. And then the worse case scenario happens: the only one who — reluctantly — helps him stay out of the fray is someone who hasn’t seen a single one of his films.

Petey walks into the bakery with a list of recipes from his late mother and an intention for the head baker to make them all while he sits and has a slice of pie — overseeing the process even though he has no baking experience whatsoever. Greg accepts the demand on one condition: Petey has to help him make these desserts — because there’s no way in hell his mother intended for a stranger to bake these recipes.
