Summary
Lan Zhan is—everything. Wei Wuxian looks at him, and he aches. And somewhere near the base of his neck, wrapped around the white bones of his spine, the little hitchhiking ghost whispers: wouldn't it be nice, if we had him all to ourselves? Wouldn't that be nice?
That's the crux of it, really. Lotuses bloom for half the year. The sun sets in the west. Wei Wuxian wants Lan Wangji. And the ghost, too, wants Lan Wangji—but it wants much more than Wei Wuxian is willing to take.

"I mean, look at all this white!" the man says, gesturing at the banquet hall. "If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a funeral."
"A good thing, then, that you do know better," Lan Wangji says curtly. The funeral comment has hit a nerve. "Who are you? Why are you here?"
The man pouts. "So suspicious, dianxia. Can't I just be here to enjoy the festivities?"
Lan Wangji fixes him with an unimpressed glare.
The man holds up his hands. "Fine, fine," he sighs. "You've caught me. This humble one's name is Wei Wuxian, and I'm here to save your life."
