"Pete turns and begins to carefully pour the cheese into the pot, and because he thinks no one is watching, dumps in way more than is necessary.
Steph snorts.
Pete jumps, shrieking as he flings the (almost empty) bag of cheese in her general direction.
And, the thing is, Steph’s not even upset. In fact, it’s hilarious. But she has had such a shitty day that the whiplash has a sob bursting out instead of a laugh. And that first sob is followed by another, and another, until she’s standing in their kitchen with tears streaming down her face and shredded cheese in her hair."

Too weird to love, too scared to die.
"All in all, it’s a terrible day. The headache she predicted comes crashing down on her somewhere around the halfway mark of her shift, untouched by the ibuprofen. During lunch, the overlapping sound of children talking and chewing grates her nerves raw. The harsh overhead lights and neon-bright colors of the entire room start to nauseate her already weak stomach.
By the time all of the kids have been picked up, she can feel a lump growing in her throat and pressure building behind her eyes. Literally all she wants is to curl up under a blanket and stare at a wall for a few hours."
