Summary
There is no universe where Oikawa could have been friends with Ushijima back then, the latter being the wall he would fail to get across time and time again - an unforgivable offence in his youth. It would have been impossible, a fate as certain as being born with your mother’s eyes and your father’s hair. But twelve years later, and he maybe wants it to have a different ending – feels the need to dust off and polish connections that have history and have roots, ones that have been placed long, long before.
(For the want of a pin, Oikawa spends some time with an old rival at the Paris 2024 Olympics.)

Summary
A beginning to an end, wherein kids had asked, for what had felt like the millionth time in Kageyama’s life, what games he liked to play, and he had said volleyball, and they had specified with laughter, no, they were talking about video games, obviously , and so he had said none.
But then Kindaichi, ever the empathetic peacemaker even back then, had been there to say that he liked volleyball too, and Kunimi had agreed offhandedly, because it’s not like they were there in the volleyball club to play video games, he had pointed out to the others who seemed dead-set on giggling their heads off. And Kageyama hadn’t fully grasped the offer of friendship that the two of them had held out in that moment, but he had felt comfortable in a way that he hadn’t ever before, outside of with his sister and Kazuyo.
(Kageyama returns home from Italy for the December holidays, and maybe also learns how to change a lightbulb and do his taxes.)

Summary
“We will welcome your challenge.” Ushijima said, and for any passerby his face would have been easily classified as being hard and disinterested. But though years had passed and the man sitting in front of him resolutely eating rice and fermented beans was now 25, Goshiki felt the vestiges of a past look of expectation — a look from an 18-year-old that had both at once quelled insecurities and inspired. Goshiki, he had said once. What does a person of your talent and skill have to be anxious of?
(Goshiki, on the cusp of a graduation two times over.)
