“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were jealous.” It’s weak, almost embarrassing how insincere the taunt sounds coming out of Pik's mouth. There’s no way Jai is jealous, and yet, he remains silent.
Clearing his throat, Jai recites “if I’m not dating, neither can you.” He should’ve predicted how Jai would react to the possibility of Pik going out on dates -- it’s a mantra that he’s heard over and over again since the day they met. Still, it’s the final say on the matter. No matter how ridiculous of a claim it is, no matter how hypocritical, that sentiment is what allows Pik to hold on to the glimmer of hope that one day, Jai will look his way and see him.
--or: Pik starts dating someone to try to get over the feelings he's been harboring for his best friend. Jai definitely has thoughts on it.
