“You should come back with me.”
“Whaddaya mean?” Steve says, around a mouthful of pizza.
“To New York.”
There isn’t music playing, but if there were, this is when the record would scratch and everyone would freeze. Steve lowers his slice of pizza and rubs self-consciously at the red sauce at the corner of his mouth.
“Huh?”
“You should come back with me to New York,” Eddie repeats.
“To visit? Or, like… to live there?”
In which Eddie has feelings about Steve's baseball coach khakis, dating long-distance, and what the future holds for their definitely-alive, definitely not doomed-by-canon relationship.
(Basically the Steddie version of the Hollanov cottage conversation, wherein Eddie is Shane and plans their future for an oblivious Steve.)

Summary
Steve looks wide awake, wired. Fingers drumming against his chest. He frowns slightly, like he’s processing Dustin’s words, and then exhales. A soft, Huh.
“I actually, uh, forgot about it,” he says. Laughs quietly. “I guess it’s kinda…” He blows out air from his cheeks and gestures vaguely. Dustin doesn’t point out that his hand is shaking. “Like, flying through time or something, right?” He smiles. “Like the DeLorean.”

Summary
“What are you doing?” Dustin’s voice follows him as his hands fumble across the array of titles until they finally land on the money.
Sweetheart.
The word is written on the tape in Eddie’s handwriting, smudged slightly from when Steve had done nothing but carry it around all day every day like it was the physical personification of his grief.
“Just.. come here, man.” Steve breathes, feeling a tear finally fall.
Or
a rewrite of the “i was angry” scene from s5 in which steve finally admits he’s grieving

Summary
Eddie, who has already turned his back, hesitates with one foot on the threshold. Steve brings his own arms around himself, digging his nails into his shoulders so that he can focus on the pain. It’s that or throw himself at Eddie. That or wrap his arms around his neck and slot his body into his and grind himself against him so he can feel the slick, warm wetness of his arousal through both their clothes.
