Summary
Ser Jude Bellingham swore a sacred oath to protect the damp, foggy edges of Wessex. But when the Viking vanguard washes over his outpost like a wave of steel, his garrison is slaughtered, and Jude is left waiting in the mud for the killing blow.
Instead of an axe, he finds himself hoisted over the shoulder of the Viking commander—a towering, surprisingly chatty warrior named Erling. Now a prisoner in his own burning hall, Jude must navigate a hostile language, a captive's despair, and the strange, intense curiosity of the giant who spared his life.
