it’s stupid, he knows. it’s not that long. they’ve done worse.
but still.
he exhales, dragging his arm down, blinking up at the ceiling like it’s personally responsible.
then–
“are you fucking kidding me–”
his head snaps toward the window.
he goes still.
there’s a pause, like his brain is catching up, replaying it, trying to decide if he imagined it.
“…annabeth?” he mutters, sitting up.
nothing. just the city.
he almost laughs at himself and leans back again.
“oh my gods, if i fall–”
he’s up before she finishes the sentence. crosses the room in two steps, shoving the window open the rest of the way and leaning out–and there she is.

Summary
Percy's mom is getting married today, and he's fine with that change. No, really. Never mind the pang that appears in his gut whenever he thinks about the wedding for too long. Paul Blofis is perfect for Sally, and Percy's ecstatic about today.
A change he's not okay with? Everything that's coming up this summer. He's not ready to deal with that huge, looming prophecy or address the awkwardness between him and Annabeth. But, per Sally's request, Annabeth is his date to the wedding. (Don't get it twisted: she's his date, but this isn't a date.) Whether he likes it or not, he may have to confront some of those feelings sooner than he'd hoped.
