Summary
Follo remembers when he had first seen Zanka in vivid clarity. It was a cold day in the north ward, toxic snow drifted lazily to the ground as it always did. The sight was a strange mix of toxicity and beauty in this awful world he lived in. The murmuring of the same people he always spoke to droned around him, except there was a spark of something different in the air that day. He had run there, afraid of who he might see, one of the faceless mob, leaning forward to get a single look, a single taste of those that were brave, those that were special. Afraid to see that he had remained here whilst his friend had succeeded him. He hadn't seen his friend though, instead his breath was caught. He understood the mob at once, this was the sight of someone special.
