“Are you…” Peter inhales sharply, risking a step forward, and she doesn’t move away. But if he were to reach for her hand, she’d probably slap him, so he doesn’t take that chance. “How have you been?”
“Me?” She asks him in such a disbelieving tone that it almost seems like he offended her. But her expression wilts, drying up into nothing but blankness, something he hasn’t seen since sophomore year. “I’m fine. I mean, I’ve been here. We’ve all been here.”
“MJ—” His voice cracks a bit, shaky.
“Where else would we be?” Michelle smiles humorlessly, sleeves just barely reaching her fingertips as she picks at a loose thread on her shirt. “Not all of us can just pick up and leave. Or should I say run away.”

“Oh shit.” MJ steps closer, but freezes at the sight of the blood that comes away on his hands. “Are you okay?”
