“Really?” Joyce asked. She raised her eyebrows and grinned at him, her interest piqued, “How long?”
He hummed and didn’t answer. Instead, he leaned in to press his lips to Joyce’s jaw, and she giggled as he peppered kisses along her jawline and below.
“You first,” he rasped, kissing his way back up the sensitive skin of her throat, “When did you realize you loved me?"

“What are you thinking?” he asks, smoothing her hair down with his palm.
“That this is nice. It’s exactly what I imagined it would be like.” It was exactly what she spent her sleepless nights thinking about. Nights like this where their little family sat around and did absolutely nothing but enjoy each other's company, well, minus the looming threat of their world being literally turned upside down.

At first he was worried it was pity that led her to surrender herself to him so completely. Despite the clear desire in her tone the first night she sat across from him on the bed and asked him what he wanted— the way her hand lingered on his thigh, the way she bit her lip, the way she leaned in close enough to give him a perfect view down her loose nightshirt— part of him remained convinced for the longest time that this wasn’t what she really wanted.
Still, in time, his hesitance wore away and he began to pay more attention; began to notice how eager she was to please him, how beautifully she’d fall apart to his gasped moans and praises and confessions of his undying love, how badly she wanted him, and with that realization came the return of his confidence.
