“Gotcha, you little buddy,” the man said, holding the squirming little poodle in his arms.
When Layla reached them, she was out of breath and completely embarrassed. “Oh my God! I am so sorry! He never does this,” she apologized and tried to smooth out her hair.
The man shrugged at her and cradled Max in his arms as if he’d done this a million times before. His smile was easy and genuine, and his brown eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked at her.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said and held out Max to her. “He just wanted to say hi.”
