Vi tilted her head toward the sound, rain threading through her hair. “Mhm?”
“You’re going to get drenched,” Caitlyn called, half-sheltered on the porch now, expression caught somewhere between worry and baffled affection.
Vi turned her face back up, closed her eyes, and let it happen. Let the rain fall, clean and warm. Warmer than she’d expected. So many times she’d tried to remember, to summon this feeling in the dark. It had never come close.

Summary
At first, it was just the occasional late night at the office. A bummer, but nothing alarming for someone in Caitlyn’s position. Hell, even Vi found herself stuck late doing paperwork every now and again; it was just part of the job. Get through it, move on, no big deal.
Only, the late nights started getting later. They started getting more frequent. Caitlyn would come home well after dark and fall asleep cuddling with Vi on the couch within the hour, her stomach still growling from the meal she’d apparently missed.
Vi thought back to the days just after the battle. How sometimes she’d existed in such a fog that the only reason she remembered to eat, sleep, or bathe was Caitlyn placing a full plate of food into her hands, Caitlyn turning down the sheets and gently pulling her into them, Caitlyn asking if she’d like to join her for a shower. She thought about how Caitlyn had taken care of her at a time when she hadn’t even realized she was failing to take care of herself.
In her expert opinion, it was now time for Vi to return the favor.

Vi grabbed her phone off of the kitchen counter to respond.

The dots that meant Caitlyn was typing popped up.
Disappeared.
Vi’s other eyebrow joined the first.
It was fucking weird Caitlyn was hesitating to ask her anything.
A few seconds later, the dots popped up again.
Vi sighed, starting to type.

shit or get off the pot cupcake
Vi laughed, picturing the wrinkle between Caitlyn’s eyebrows as she frowned at Vi’s word choice.
She stuck the last bite of her breakfast in her mouth as the three little dots popped up in the corner of her screen.
Would you consider this “tasteful”?
Vi read the message, her own brow crinkling as she made a confused face at the screen. She started typing “what” but only got as far as “wh–” when an image popped up under the message.
Her best friend had just…
Her best friend had just sent her a fucking nude.

Vi and Caitlyn are best friends, they're completely in love with each other, and a saucy photo feedback request stokes the fire.
