Sometimes, Eddie wants to put it all down on paper, tease out the threads until they lay flat and he can see the beginning, the middle, the end, understand how they got here and there, how it both started and ended with the sharp press of a beer bottle to the stubbled skin of Steve’s throat.
It might make him feel better. Might make everything fucking worse.
Regardless, Steve is a secret, and Eddie keeps him.

1973
Before Eddie Munson was The Freak, he had another name shouted at him by his peers: Crow Boy. New to Hawkins after his mother's death, Eddie struggles to find friendship at the local elementary school. He finds himself being ridiculed for spending recess alone, finding shiny lost treasures on the school yard. An unlikely friend joins his side for a brief while before leaving him all alone again.1986
Steve Harrington doesn't have the best memory. Turns out, getting concussions is pretty damn bad for your brain. He forgets bits and pieces of old memories that return whenever they please. There's something about Eddie Munson that he can't quite place... Until he does. It seems some apologies are in order.Time has changed them both, but deep down inside they're still the same boys from thirteen years ago. Though, friendship might not be the only thing to arise from their reunion.

Eddie stares at him. “From… your basketball lackeys?”
“Sure. Yeah.”
Is this… is Harrington winding him up?
“Are you winding me up?”
“What? No. No!”
“Pardon my hesitance,” Eddie says, narrowing his eyes, “this is just- kind of unexpected. And by that, I mean- a bit of a mind fuck.”
Steve clears his throat, looks down at his shoes.
Eddie kind of dances from side to side, ducks down to recapture Steve's gaze. “And by that- I mean- cereal shopping with Steve ‘the hair’ Harrington while he apologises on behalf of high school jocks everywhere.”
