"Thanks," Yizhuo says. Her voice comes out quieter than she intended. Then, because she's impulsive and stupid and can't help herself, she adds, "Thanks, mommy."
She says it casual, like it's a joke. Like she's not testing the waters. Like her heart isn't pounding so hard she can feel it in her throat.
Aeri freezes.
It's barely a second, but Yizhuo catches it. The way Aeri's breath hitches, sharp and sudden. The way her grip tightens on her own mug, knuckles going white. The way her eyes go wide and then dark, pupils dilating. And then, quietly, almost like she can't help it, Aeri makes this sound. It's soft, caught in her throat, breathy and desperate, but it's definitely a moan.
Holy shit.

"We could try it," Jimin says finally. Her voice is carefully casual but Minjeong catches the slight tremor in it, the way her fingers have started drumming against the counter in that nervous rhythm she does when she's trying to seem unbothered.
Minjeong's head snaps up. "What?"
"We're going out tonight anyway." Jimin's ears are turning red but she maintains eye contact. "And neither of us has been having much luck. It couldn't hurt to test it."
"You want to kiss me." The words come out flat, disbelieving. But it's practical, Minjeong tells herself. It's just an experiment. Friends help friends. And they're both omegas, so it's—it's safe. It doesn't mean anything. It can't mean anything because that's not how things work. Omegas don't—they're not supposed to—
"I want to help you test a theory." Jimin looks away, her fingers drumming faster now. "We're roommates. We're comfortable with each other. It makes sense."

She couldn't finish the thought. Couldn't look away either. Her eyes traced the line of her jaw, the curve of her neck, returned to her face like being pulled by something magnetic. She couldn’t help but catalogue every single impossible detail. Poreless skin. Raven hair parted perfectly down the middle. Every angle deliberate. Like a portrait someone had agonized over with infinite patience and a very specific vision of what would make people stare.
And Minjeong was staring.
She forced herself to look away, focused on the wall behind the woman's shoulder, but her gaze kept drifting back. Of course she looks like this, Minjeong scolded herself. She was made to. But knowing that didn't help. Didn't slow her pulse or stop her from unconsciously wetting her lips.
