“I bet the monster will come alone again this year,” he says, his voice scratchy like the sound of a blender in the early hours of the morning.
Aaron stiffens beside his brother, shoulders creeping up to his ears before he opens his eyes. He turns to Seth with a sneer. In seconds, Aaron had gone from asleep to fully awake, an anger simmering under the surface of his skin, water boiling over.
“I’ll take that bet,” Aaron says, face a blank slate, anger cooling behind his eyes. If this were still college, Aaron would’ve let anger take over, let fists fly. With age, Aaron had learned that there are crueler things than violence.
“Five hundred bucks,” Seth replies, eyes sparkling in amusement. He’s got the face of someone who thinks they’ve won.
“A thousand,” Aaron counters. Andrew’s eyebrow twitches up imperceptibly, a feeling like a laugh bubbling up his throat.

“But why me?”
“You are my only good option. Aaron is straight. Andrew is rabid. Allison and Seth are on and off so often it’s impossible to keep track. Dan and Matt are a couple and getting them both to agree to pretend to date me would be harder. Renee doesn’t like men. Katelyn is lovely but Aaron would be angry. I don’t know which of the others started or stopped dating over the summer. That leaves you."
“What about Kevin?”
Jean scoffs. “You cannot be serious.”
“He’s…” What is Kevin? Not any better at telling Riko ‘no’ than Jean is, and, subsequently, probably not great at lying to him. Also, is it really believable that Kevin would jeopardize the team and their athletic careers by shitting where he eats? Probably not. Kevin’s amended hierarchy of needs just has the word EXY at the base. Somewhere far above that are pedestrian concerns like ‘food’ and ‘water’ and ‘shelter.’
“Taller,” Neil finishes lamely. “He’s taller.”

“Will, Will, it hurts. It hurts so bad” Mike sobs, resolve cracking. He didn’t mean to get so - so affected by the arguing, it just. It brought him back to when he’d come home to his parents fighting. They were always fighting.
“Oh Mike,” Will said, tugging Mike back to him gently. He leans into Will’s touch, letting his head rest on Will’s shoulder.
“Don’t you understand Mike?” Will asks, and Mike shivers as Will’s hands creep up from his neck into his hair, curling his fingers around the strands.
Mike feels the feather light brush of Will’s lips near his ear, so comforting. Until the grip Will has in his hair tightens; “You deserve the pain.” Will murmurs.
Mike gasps, writhing and twisting but Will’s grip is impossibly strong.
“W-Will stop you’re-you’re” Mike stammers, unable to get any words out.
“I’m what, Mike? Hurting you? Can you really blame me, Mike? After all the pain you caused me?” Will retorts, his grip on Mike only tightening.----

mike wheeler and will byers read holly wheeler a bedtime story so she wouldnt get nightmares. as she was listening to the story she notices cuts on mikes arm. she points them out and mike is visibly scared because he hadnt told anyone about them. he especially didnt want will to know.
