“Gege doesn't have to,” he murmured.
“I want to,” Xie Lian replied simply. Hua Cheng bit his lip and then let it go quickly, aware of Xie Lian's watchful eyes on his face.
His thumbs slid down Hua Cheng's nose and swept under his eyes ticklishly. Hua Cheng's brow twitched.
“It's not a chore,” Xie Lian reassured quietly.
“I know,” Hua Cheng said, sighing.
He really did. Xie Lian cared. Because they were married. Because he loved Hua Cheng. Because he didn't want Hua Cheng to be in pain.
Hua Cheng's chest expanded on a deep breath.
“I know,” he repeated.

It's a crime that it's only the second time Xie Lian says it. The first time he did was the first time Hua Cheng took off his eye patch and Xie Lian was starstruck with his bare face. But Hua Cheng is beautiful always, at any given time, and he needs to know that.
“It's Gege who's the most b—”
Before he's able to finish, Xie Lian places his fingers on his lips, stopping the rest of his sentence before it gets out.
“No, don't say that,” Xie Lian frowns. “Don't make this about me again.””
Where Xie Lian learns to give affection, Hua Cheng learns to receive it and they both learn to talk about it.

““Are you done?” Xie Lian asked. Hua Cheng hummed and gave a single nod, before tugging off his eye patch.
“I was doing my best to join Gege quickly,” he said with a smile, getting under the covers and scooting closer to Xie Lian immediately like there was a powerful force pulling him in. Maybe there was.
“Hurrying up doesn't go well with San Lang's calligraphy,” Xie Lian smirked, tilting his head to accept the kiss Hua Cheng planted on his lips.
“I was hoping Gege could go easy on his favorite disciple,” Hua Cheng purred lowly.
Xie Lian huffed, “I've spoiled you rotten already, and yet you still say things like this.”
“How incredibly ungrateful of me,” Hua Cheng chuckled, his fingers angling Xie Lian's face for another sweet kiss. ”

Long slender fingers came to catch fluttering strands of hair as they brushed past Xie Lian’s cheekbone, “As I longed for you, Dianxia.”
“I would come up there, but as you can see this humble farmer is filthy right now.”
This prompted Hua Cheng to fully cup his cheek, hand sliding to rest below his ear as a cold thumb caressed his cheekbone. “That wouldn’t stop me from embracing you,” A playful smirk took its place on the Ghost King’s face. “I have been pressed against gege’s sweaty body before.”

“San Lang,” Xie Lian gasps, lust absolutely dripping off his words. Mu Qing has never heard him sound like this before.
“Beloved,” Hua Cheng answers, his tone foreign. He’s made his voice gentle, stripped it of all the barbs he uses to flay wounds into his enemies. Mu Qing barely recognizes it.
“Kiss me,” Xie Lian begs - and there’s no other way it can be described, aside from begging. He sounds as if he’ll die of thirst if he’s left alone.
