Summary
FBI profiler Steve Rogers has no idea what's going on. He's new to the DC office and on his first day he's pulled in to interrogate a suspect. The problem is, the suspect is none other than the FBI's most wanted, James Barnes. Unsure why he's being asked to do the interrogation, Steve finds out that Barnes refuses to talk to anyone, but him. Through twists and turns, Steve learns the truth about his past and how he's connected to the criminal mastermind.

“I was on the roof to prevent escape,” she answered him calmly. “It was a good plan, Barnes. Steve okayed it himself.”
“Steve’s a moron with no sense of self preservation,” he shot back without hesitating. Sam snorted.
“He’s made it this—” she started, but Sam cut her off.
“You’ve got that right. We were outgunned from the beginning. The practically ignored Steve though. Overpowered both Nat and I, then volunteered to trade.”
“Wait,” Bucky wasn’t sure he was hearing this right. “You were captured? Didn’t I train you myself? In what world are widows allowed to get captured?”
Sam seemed to know what he was saying, “it wasn’t her fault, man. I told you, there weren’t even human, it was like—”

“Steve’s been hit with a curse,” Natasha said. She said it calmly, so Bucky didn’t immediately go flying out of the apartment to tear apart the Tower in search of Steve. Then again, Natasha would probably be calm if New York City spontaneously burst into flames. He lowered the coffee pot and squinted at her.
“Of course he has,” he said. He felt, abruptly, exhausted. “What is it?”
“The witch kept ranting about sexual repression and archaic moral principles,” she continued blithely.
“It’s not like you to prevaricate, Romanov.”
Natasha pressed her lips together. For a moment, Bucky thought she might start laughing. “It might be easier just to show you.”
