Summary
The Carringtons were a noble Scottish family of very high standing in society when the late Duke of Rothesay and Earl of Wessex looked for a wife, he had joined the social season in London and married the then, Miss Jocasta Cowper.
They had had a happy enough marriage, and sired three children, the oldest James, had inherited his father’s titles at only six and ten, and had to take responsibility for his siblings and mother. As a second son, his younger brother Arthur had very much the liberty to enjoy his freedom and frequented many artistic and scandalous establishments for a man of his standing.
Both brothers seemed to agree that their youngest sister, Elisabeth, who was debuting in the 1813 season, would not marry anyone undeserving of her, in matters of character and rank.
The Carrington Matriarch was to have a busy season indeed.
