Summary
Grief and suffering embrace the body of Kurosawa Hoshiko as if they were old friends. Death lingering behind her as always. She swallows the pain like pills her mother takes to forget. KEUNG DAIYU and her brother were born victims of the vicious cycle of poverty. With an absent father and an uninvolved prostitute mother, living in the slums of Kowloon, Daiyu was better off not to have been born. In fact, she grew up wishing that this was not her life. She was eight years old. Her brother Keung Yulong hoped for the same, not only for himself but for his little sister. He could accept and live with being a victim of poverty. But he could not accept that for his little sister, Daiyu. So one night Keung Yulong made a promise. He held his pinky out to Daiyu and promised he would get them out of there, that he would get a better life for them. A promise, sealed with a touch of their thumb.
NOT EVERYONE was lucky enough to have a second chance in life. She promised herself that she would work hard, get rich, settle down and never be a victim of poverty ever again. Now as a 26-year-old woman, Daiyu wonders where and when she stuffed up her second life this badly. Was it when she let Kojima Aki into her life? Or when she befriended Tachibana Hinata? Perhaps it was that kind-hearted boy from that gang. That gang being the infamous Tokyo Manji Gang.
If only she could turn back time.
