His mouth felt dry and his jaw felt heavy with words that threatened to pour out, but never came.“Hello? Is anyone there?” The voice rang out into the darkness of the early hours, Lando’s heart pounding in his ears.
“Probably a scam caller. Lily, can you get-”
The line went dead.
Lando’s phone slipped out of his hands, dropping to the floor.
He swore his heart plummeted too. -
