And then silence followed.
But after a while Minho leaned closer, mischief gleaming in her eyes. “Let’s get married.”
Seungmin blinked. “What?”
“I dare you,” she said, giggling. “Let’s get married. You hate your life, I hate mine. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Logic screamed at him to walk away. But the drink, the loneliness, the weariness, they all blurred into something reckless.
“Okay,” he said.
And so they did.

Minho flinched.
“I never said those things bothered me.”
“That doesn’t mean they didn’t.”
“Minho—”
“You never complain. You never yell at me. What if you’re just swallowing it all because it’s easier than dealing with me?” His voice cracked, soft but vicious. “What if I’ve been making you feel like shit this whole time and you’re too polite to say it?”
Seungmin stared at him, chest rising and falling.
“I didn’t know you were so good at writing fanfiction,” he said flatly.
Minho let out a humorless laugh.
Seungmin sat beside him, shoulder to shoulder. “I know people don’t get it. They don’t have to. We do.”
Minho didn’t speak.
Seungmin turned his head. “But I won’t lie. You have been weird. So if there’s something you need to say, say it.”

Seungmin finally set his cup down. “You do realize you’re in a stranger’s house.”
“Mm-hm.”
“And that I could’ve kidnapped you.”
“If you wanted to do that, I’d be tied up by now.”
He stared.
“Or undressed,” Minho added, opening drawers now. “Or locked in a panic room. Something dramatic. But look at me. I’m perfectly blanket-wrapped and hydrated. So.”
He raised an eyebrow. “So?”
“So obviously,” she said, cracking eggs into a pan like a queen wielding authority, “you’re harmless.”
“Harmless?”
“You tucked me in, didn’t you?”

“Honestly, he and Kim Seungmin are, like, the smartest guys in school, but they’re so different.”
“Like the flame and the light kind of way. Same but different.”
“Oh my god, literally! Minho sunbae is like… sunshine and leadership and academic excellence.”
“Seungmin’s like…” one of them hesitated, clearly trying not to be rude. “I mean… he’s smart, yeah, but also…”
“Scary?” someone suggested.
“Hot in a do-not-approach kind of way?”
“Like if ‘leave me alone’ was a person.”
Seungmin rolled his eyes,
The flame and the light.
He hated how often they got lumped together, “the smart ones.” As if being good at academics put them in the same category. As if Seungmin’s barely-there effort and Minho’s perfect punctuality were the same thing.
Minho was everyone’s favorite.
He smiled like a public service.
He was calm, collected, admirable. Every inch the kind of guy people wanted to be or be with.
Seungmin?
He didn’t smile unless it was a smirk. He corrected professors without blinking. He never raised his hand. Just spoke when he felt like it.
They were two sides of a coin.
One wrapped in gold.
The other sharp enough to cut.

“Tell me, Minho.”
A pause. The kind of pause that made Minho’s throat go dry.
“What’s your problem tonight?”
Minho didn’t answer. Couldn’t. His pride kept his mouth shut, but inside, he was burning because that voice, that presence, that tension Seungmin was radiating had his body betraying him, skin hot, pulse racing.
Seungmin let out a soft, humorless chuckle, one that sent shivers down Minho’s spine.
“Cat got your tongue?” he murmured, voice brushing against Minho’s ear as he leaned in, so close Minho could feel the ghost of his breath.

Summary
Seungmin steals a glance and quickly looks away again, clearing his throat to make sure his voice doesn’t crack when he speaks.
“Stop looking at me like that” he says, as he tries to reach a persimmon on a higher branch. Minho blinks innocently.
“Like what?” she asks. He gets to pluck it, and he stares at it for a second. When he puts it in the basket in Minho’s embrace, he looks into her eyes.
“...like I’m your boyfriend”

Summary
There was no look of remorse in the king's eyes as he spoke, just a terrifying indifference as Seungmin felt the control over his life slip through his fingers under his father's gaze.
Seungmin desperately looked over at his mother, receiving only a vague look and strained smile in return. She clearly would not take his side today, not that she ever did, always siding with his father, no matter what nonsense he spouted. The feeling of despair mixed with dread was beginning to completely overtake him now, feeling utterly powerless in the face of what his father was telling him.
Why was this happening? Why was he doing this to him? Seungmin had always done everything that had been asked of him, changed himself to fit the king's every fucking expectation of him, and in return he was sending him away to another kingdom to get married?
Or, Prince Seungmin has a very normal (not at all impulsive, dramatic or stupid) reaction to being forced into an arranged marriage and ends up stowing away on a pirate shipBookmarked by irinomini
