    For as long as Gideon had known she’d been the gilded offspring of the Necrolord Prime, or whatever the Ninth House had taken to calling her, she’d also known that they’d promised her to their Reverend Daughter. Their obsession with getting close to God bordered on cult-like, but Gideon didn’t really have a choice in the matter – and she didn’t think the Ninth House would take her seriously even if she wanted to back out. Even being the daughter of God didn’t get you out of marrying the most pious woman in the galaxy, apparently.
