Maxwell snarls, his upper lip curling, and Longspot’s scent shifts, the ash becoming acrid. His eyes flare wide, and he takes a full step back. Maxwell is reminded of the boy at school, how he’d been so eager to throw the first punch, and then scrambled away as soon as Maxwell bloodied his teeth, shouting for help with tears in his eyes.
Then Longspot straightens, rolling his shoulders back. “Well,” he says, and Maxwell can taste the disdain in his voice now, where before he could only hear it. “It took you long enough.”
And that is all Longspot Gotch ever says on the subject of his youngest son being an omega.

Summary
Veth was crafty; she had the fingers for that sort of stuff, you see, all soft skin and blunt nails. Nott's skin is rough and her nails are sharp no matter how she tries to clip them.
But Nott doesn't mind, really. Her jewelry, all her buttons, she wouldn't want them anyway. This body is disgusting, and she wouldn't want to accent it with something beautiful. The things she misses, she will get back when she returns to Felderwin for good.
(Or: Caleb realizes what Nott is missing, and gives her back a little piece of home.)
