This story picks up after the ending of The Way of Water, with the huge canon divergence that Neteyam does not succumb to his injuries and instead survives. But at what cost? He now needs to redefine how he sees himself after his injury leaves him unable to continue on his warrior son path.
Meanwhile, as the war to protect Pandora is only getting started, Jake and his family must once again answer the call to action. Only this time with the bull's eye painted directly on their backs, and with the Sky People gearing up for an attack on a much larger scale, they need to recruit more allies than they've ever thought possible.

An alternative take on the story of the film, wherein Victor and Heinrich Harlander had found solace in each other. Note the MCD tag - in the film, both Victor and Harlander die, and I’ve decided to keep this consistent.
