The day they met, sitting next to each other on Logan’s cheap futon beneath his roommate’s lofted bed, Oscar pressed their palms together to see whose fingertips ended first. It was more of an excuse to touch than anything, but he wouldn’t lie and say the size difference didn’t fascinate him at all.

He should have said yeah, no, thanks, been there, done that, came back all wrong, but he simply knew he couldn’t do it to Bez, whose barely contained enthusiasm was already bubbling up like frothy Champagne from a popped bottle. They were in the kitchen, Marc making his renowned chicken and peppers, and Bez had just – dropped the bomb like that.
“You should come over. For the weekend,” he had said while setting the table. Marc had thought he was talking about meeting his parents, but then Bez had added “at the Ranch” and suddenly Marc had felt his knees turn into fucking gelatine.
“At the Ranch,” he had parroted, and Bez had nodded, claiming everything had already been talked about in advance, that there wouldn’t have been any journalists, just some of the boys having fun and, well, their gracious host.
Which is still the crux of the matter, anyway.Bez invites Marc to the Ranch for a training session. Marc comes to regret every single one of his life choices in the span of two days but, all in all, things go way better than expected.
