She won’t have to feel this. A heavy weight that’s not quite agony, but not light enough to be less than a burden. She won’t have to feel haunted, won’t have to feel the remnants of the events she’s endured.
Just a bite. Just a little while, in the safety of her orchard. Just a bite and she won’t have to be so scared.

It’s a year after the Battle of the Serpent, and in the midst of dishing out punishment and learning how to rule, Jude Duarte has found her footing. The first mortal queen of Faerie, the first to ever be chosen by the king and the land. It’s a title she intends to hold onto for years to come, even if the blood running through her veins will expire long before Cardan reaches his middle age.
But despite being crowned with the power she had dreamed of her whole life, there are some parts of her that can’t seem to leave. She might be a queen, but she can still feel pain. There are days where power can’t chase it away.
