“Aren’t you going home ? We finished talking.” Mike deadpanned, and Robin chuckled. She liked Mike. He was straightforward and avoided roundabouts like the plague, and Robin liked it.“Actually no, we didn’t finish talking.” Mike raised a brow, putting away the snacks he served them, and leaned on the table, and Robin mirrored him.
“I want to know you better.” She said, and Mike’s brows raised so high they almost disappeared in his hair. He quickly regained his composure, crossing his arms. Robin wasn’t an expert on body language by any means, but she knew what that meant.
“You know me enough.” He replied. She recognized his behavior as defensive, as if he stood with a sign with “DO NOT APPROACH” written on it. But Robin liked to pretend she didn’t learn to read.
Robin is curious about Mike Wheeler. It was one of her best ideas.

“Sometimes you need to fall.”
Will looked at him, his eyes scanning Mike as he thought.
“God, Mike, that’s a pretty fatalistic point of view.”
“Why?” He chuckled. “I mean it, you know, you gotta hit rock bottom to start getting back up for real.”
The past year things had been… weird, in many ways. And apparently for Mike is just going to keep being weird: this time he is doing everything right. After the gates opening in Hawkins the entire town was evacuated, and Mike suddenly found himself living far away from all his friends.
But he keeps in touch, they have a routine. He is doing everything right, but El is the one pushing away now.
And Mike feels lost, away from everything he thought he once understood. Never so alone since it all started.
At least Will and him are talking again.

Summary
Mike breathes out sharply, sinking to his knees in front of Will without conscious thought. Every bone in his body is turning to jelly, because Will is here, but he's also- not. His form is made up of the same dusty gold that fills the air around him, flaking off him and dancing around. Mike wants to reach out and catch the light in his palm. Will looks not entirely solid, like this is some poor imitation of him rendered in light particles, like his physical form is somewhere else, and for a horrible moment Mike thinks that Will is a ghost after all. That this is an illusion, brought about by Mike's hopeless yearning. If it weren't for the pebbles digging sharply into his legs as he knees on the ground and the crisp chill of the spring air on his face, Mike would be sure he was dreaming, but he doesn't think he could dream up something so simultaneously as magical and horrifying as the specter of his maybe-dead friend hovering before him.
"Will," he whispers, reaching out until his fingers are centimeters from Will's arm, and Will's eyes fly open.
on march 29th, 1986, will byers vanishes for a second time. 366 days later, he reappears.
