Another step. Her following inhale is loud and forces her chest up. He sees it, and she knows he does.
Kate hardens her own jaw. “You must think me a fool if you believe I’m going to lift my skirts at the quirk of your brow.”

And when she walks into the café, Kate sees a smile that really should not be as familiar as it is, directed at her sweet, innocent baby sister.
