Seonghwa thinks Hongjoong is only with him because of guilt.
Hongjoong thinks Seonghwa only stayed because he had no other choice.In their final year of high school, Hongjoong experiences a sudden presentation and in a rut haze, he claims his childhood best friend Seonghwa. Unwilling to reverse the mating, they decide to live as a mated couple and deal with the consequences together. Four years later, in Hongjoong’s final year of college, their relationship is domestic and stable in their own way but interspersed with awkwardness as untold feelings and unresolved tension underlies their every interaction. When Hongjoong overhears Seonghwa’s true feelings, he resolves to prove to Seonghwa that their mating is everything he ever could have wanted while Seonghwa suspects that Hongjoong is trying to find the right time to end things.
TLDR; alpha Hongjoong accidentally mates alpha Seonghwa and they’re both in love with each other and repressed about it.

“There’s no one else to live for anymore.” Clarke utters those words without too much emotion. They’ve had time over the years to reflect on all the people ripped away from their lives.
