Summary
Eddie kind of gets stuck at the picture in front of him—Buck and Chris laughing side by side, Buck grinning softly at Eddie over Chris’s head.
For a second, the picture shifts, and Eddie sees a different version of this evening. A version where Buck doesn’t go back to his apartment, wether it’s tonight or tomorrow, but instead has made a home on the right side of Eddie’s bed. A version where Eddie hadn’t stopped Buck that night, where he let him kiss him, kissed back even, where he had answered, „Yes, let’s try it“.or, Eddie and Buck slept together after Eddie joins the 118, but Eddie didn't know how to let himself have nice things yet.

The sun is just moving towards setting, the air still warm but not stuffy, and really he should feel nothing but content. But all the soft familiarity of the evening only highlights the fact that the chair next to him is achingly empty.
