Shauna was really starting to fucking hate Jackie Taylor.
It was something she could admit easily. They hadn’t been proper friends since they were kids, when Jackie’s parents put her into private school after the fifth grade, and Shauna didn’t see her for years. Then it was high school, and Jackie Taylor was back, but they acted like they were strangers.
That was fine. Strangers, Shauna could do.
But friends? Absolutely not.

“Are you any good?” Paris asked, watching Caz retrieve a sword.
Caz smiled good naturedly. He was going to show Vira wrong.
He took a spare sword for Paris and held it out to him. “Spar with me and find out.”
Paris grinned and took it, his face lighting up like a match beneath the mid-day sun.
They took their positions, swords hovering side by side.
“Are you ready?” Paris asked, accent lightly grazing over his Learish words.
Caz grinned, “Only if you are.”
