Summary
It’s said that if you wish on a shooting star, your wish will come true.
“I wish for Reki to like me back.”
A bright star streaks across the night, leaving cosmic dust on its trail. The nighttime is cool, the roof under his bare feet is chilled to the touch, but Langa’s skin is ablaze. His hands, clasped, shiver in the wind. He squeezes his eyes shut. I said it! I said it out loud!
Peeling his eyes open, Langa notices that the star’s gone from the sky. Hopefully the star heard him on its way to its destination. Maybe it’ll relay his wish and phone a friend, and maybe his wish really will come true.
Langa unclasps his hands, hangs them at his sides in fists, and takes a deep breath. Cramming his eyes closed, he screams at the top of his lungs, “I really, really want Reki to like me back!”

Summary
"Her signature is at the bottom, bubbly and loopy, with a little heart doodled next to it.
Langa realizes, with a start, that he doesn’t remember what her face looks like. He’d been so caught up in the idea of love, of having someone, that he hadn’t taken the actual person into account.
It gets easier. The names and faces blur together when he learns them, and it doesn’t hurt as much when they cry. He never entirely stops feeling bad about it, though. He knows it takes courage to try to tell him their feelings in the first place, and Langa doesn’t like hurting people.
He decides that romance isn’t something for him. Love is something that happens to other people. There’s no one in his life that he can’t imagine losing. There’s no one that he can’t live without.
Meeting Reki feels like a revelation.”

Summary
With a gentle tug, Langa turns Reki around so they’re facing each other again. He pulls Reki’s hand forward until it’s open in front of him and then he presses Reki’s S pin into his palm, staring with so much intensity it’s almost unbearable because Reki still won’t look at him. His fingers curl under Langa’s, wrapping around the pin as he scoffs, turning his head to the side.
“Why?” Langa presses, his hand still firm around Reki’s wrist. “Reki, why?”

Summary
His stomach is full of butterflies as Langa reaches over and takes his hand, then presses it to his chest.
“Reki, you can feel how fast my heart is beating, right?” Langa asks. His hand is laid on top of Reki’s, and sure enough, he can feel Langa’s heart pounding beneath his palm. “And you understand what that means?”

Langa had followed his mother’s advice and been honest with his feelings, but when Reki keeps putting himself down, it becomes clear he hadn’t been quite honest enough.

“Oh, the drama!” Adam sighs, playing to the crowd like he’s fucking enjoying this. Like he gets some kind of sick thrill out of it. “Should I tell him, Joe?”
“Adam, don’t.”
But Adam ignores him, instead choosing to saunter up to the pair of them like he’s stalking his prey. “Isn’t it obvious, sweetheart?” he purrs.
He’s quiet, at least. Voice low enough so that only the three of them can hear.
“Our darling Kojiro has a pathetic little crush on you, Kaoru! Can you believe it?!”
