“It’s called ‘Margit’s Shackle’,” he says very carefully, at odds with how his heart hammers inside his chest, so loud he swears it could be heard through his armour, “so I would assume you know what it is.”
“Why dost thou possess it?” Margit issues in a snarl that is felt more than heard.
Slow and steady. “I bought it off a merchant called Patches. Chiefly so Patches would no longer have it.” Which was true. “It was not to use against you. I didn’t in Stormveil, remember? Not once.”
“Thou hast owned this since Stormveil?” Margit says icily, and Haydn swallows. Alright, maybe he shouldn’t have admitted that.
It all starts when Margit finds the shackle.
