Summary
Jeno clenched his teeth. He wished to rip the slave in shreds with his bare hands. To break him, bone by bone. He wished to but he could not. He, as the king, was bound by the divine law to listen to the one who supplicated in front of him even as his hands shook to wrap around the slave’s throat and watch as the fire slowly extinguished beneath the flutter of those lashes.
Jeno closed his eyes.
“Marry me, Your Majesty.”
Jeno opened his eyes. Not a plea for life. Not a request for freedom. Almost an order. The hand under his chin smelt of rain and freshly spilled blood. It reminded him of home.
