"Well, make it less complicated!"
Dustin throws his hands up. "Yeah, are you guys dating, or are you fighting? Because there's no way you're just friends anymore."
Will opens his mouth. His eyes are wide and a little scared, and Mike doesn't like it, but he looks back anyways.
His brain is doing the thing where it moves faster than he can follow it. Two options, Dustin said.
Will's mouth is still open. Mike thinks about fighting, and his brain slams shut. Nope. He thinks about everything Will said four days ago. If those are the only two options, Mike already knows which one he's picking.
"We're... dating," Mike says.
Or, Mike Wheeler decides that fake dating his best-friend-turned-hookup is a better option than losing him.

It starts as a joke. They’re at the bar with their friends, getting ribbed for the hundredth time about how freakishly, happily monogamous they are—even the most smitten long-term gay couples they know cruise for thirds every now and then. “And you’re turning thirty,” Chris says, pouting. “Your best twink years are far behind you.”
Will rolls his eyes, taking a sip of his vodka soda. “I know,” he says, sarcastically. “I really missed my chance to get passed around at a party.”
It’s a joke. Everyone laughs, and Mike laughs along with them. But later that night, trailing his fingers absently up and down Will’s chest, curled up behind him in bed, Mike can’t get the idea out of his head.
