Summary
Will’s expression smoothes out then, and he’s looking at Mike in consideration, like he sees him in all the ways Mike does not want to be seen.
“You were jealous,” Will offers it like it’s a fact, simple as that, and Mike nearly doubles over with the shock of it, an immediate blow to whatever unbothered facade he’d been attempting to put on for Will.
“Was not,” but his voice is so weak that he nearly collapses in embarrassment, an omission of guilt clear as day.
Mike is in love with Will. He tries very hard to love him quietly.

the recurring use of ‘head and heart’ remind me of the song ‘hope’ by modern baseball, and i love it. that song has always been so byler coded to me and this little line is bringing me a lot of joy! :3 ik it’s probs not a reference to that song but i just wanted to share this thought!! loving this story so far, and i love the way u write mike. i’m excited to see what other songs will be mentioned here, i love the use of pepper in this.

Summary
“Oh, come on,” Will says, struggling to keep his voice neutral in a different way. His mouth is dry, and he hates Mike for it even more. “Is this what it’s going to be like this summer?”
Mike looks back at him, considering, lips pursed in an effort to shut down the smirk that Will knows is fighting to break free. Will doesn’t dare to let his gaze catch there, focusing instead on holding Mike’s stare, because this, too, is a game.
Five years into a rivalry with bittersweet origins, the only thing Mike and Will want is to beat each other at this summer’s camp counselor competition.
